Tech/Events Crew

This club is for students who are interested in Technical Theatre: Lights, Sound, and Backstage. As a branch of Drama Club, these students will focus on all areas behind-the-scenes. The club will meet at least once a month during FLEX and will also host after-school training sessions. Students will be trained and certified in all areas of technical theatre in order to become capable theatre technicians. These students will have the opportunity to be eligible to work the community events and assemblies and will even be able to get paid for their work. Through hard work and dedication, students will be able to earn specific roles within the club and will be able to work their way up to the positions that are eligible to be paid technicians.

  • Stage Lighting
    • Pass written examination
    • Pass programming module
    • Pass hanging/focusing demonstration
  • Sound for the Stage & Other Areas
    • Pass written examination
    • Pass practical demonstration
  • Backstage Crew
    • Pass written examination
  • Counterweight System
    • Pass written examination
    • Pass practical demonstration
  • Customer Service
    • Pass written examination

Roles:

Master Technician—Eligible for paid community events, and all assemblies

  • Student has earned Certifications in all
  • Student has shadowed at least one community event (without pay).
  • Student has successfully worked one in school assembly in the Auditorium, and one in the gym.

Theatre Technician—Eligible for all assemblies, and able to shadow community events

  • Student has earned Certifications in all
  • Student has successfully worked one in school assembly.

Technician’s Apprentice—Eligible to shadow all events

  • Student has earned Certifications in all

Lighting Technician

  • Student has earned Certification in Stage Lighting.
  • Student is eligible to work a school assembly* with lights only under the direction of a Master Technician or Theatre Technician.

 

 

Sound Technician

  • Student has earned Certification in Sound.
  • Student is eligible to work a school assembly* with sound only under the direction of a Master Technician or Theatre Technician.

Crew Technician

  • Student has earned Certification in Backstage Crew and Counterweight System.
  • Student is eligible to work a school assembly* as a backstage crew member under the direction of a Master Technician or Theatre Technician

Apprentice Technician

  • Student has not earned any Certification but is learning

*Student may add Customer Service Certification to be able to work Community Events

 

Possible configurations of student crew members:

Assembly in Auditorium (requesting only lights and sound help): Two Technicians Required

  • 2 Master Technicians or 2 Theatre Technicians
  • 1 Master Technician & 1 Theatre Technician
  • 1 Master Technician & 1 Lights or Sound Technician
  • 1 Theatre Technician & 1 Lights or Sound Technician
  • Any of the above plus no more than two Technician’s Apprentices

 

Assembly in Auditorium (requesting lights, sound, and backstage crew help): Two Technicians Required + x amount of backstage crew help (as determined by request)

  • Same as above + x amount of Crew Technicians (or higher rank)

 

Assembly in Cafeteria/Gym (requesting sound only): Two Technicians required

  • 2 Master Technicians or 2 Theatre Technicians
  • 1 Master Technician & 1 Theatre Technician
  • 1 Master Technician & 1 Sound Technician
  • 1 Theatre Technician & 1 Sound Technician
  • Any of the above plus no more than two Technician’s Apprentices

Community Events:

  • Only Master Technicians and Theatre Technicians can run community events.
    • Exceptions can be made based on availability

 

Students will work their way up through the Certification process to earn rankings.

Mr. Hewitt will choose which students run each event based on rankings, eligibility, and seniority within club.

 

Rules
Subject to Change

  • Promotions are earned through hard work; Demotions are earned by poor work performance and not following the rules.
  • Students may be dismissed from the club for poor work performance, not following the established rules/guidelines, or for behavioral reasons.

 

  1. No one is allowed into the tech-booth for any reason if not on the pre-approved list.
  2. The tech-booth and all equipment must be maintained in a clean and organized environment.
  3. No liquids should ever be on the tech counter.
  4. No phones (or any other electronic device) should be plugged into any outlet in which the technical equipment is also plugged in. (Including the Light/Sound Computers)
  5. The lights/sound equipment must be turned off after use every time.
  6. The trashcan must be moved to the bottom of the stairwell each day.
  7. The equipment must be handled with care at all times and locked away after use every day.
  8. The Dust Cover on the NEO must be replaced daily.
